NERJA
The coastal city of Nerja in the south of Spain is a true gem. It has an old city center with winding cobble stone streets. There are many restaurants and shops and don’t miss the many ice-cream bars.
It is situated only 45 minutes east of Malaga, by car.
The Subtropical zone surrounding Nerja makes the climate ideal for visiting also during winter.
BALCON DE EUROPA
A very popular site for visitors is the Balcón de Europa, a mirador or viewpoint which gives stunning views across the sea. It is situated in the centre of the old town and is a natural meeting point.
BURRIANA BEACH
Just below the urbanization, the Burriana beach is situated. It is quite a steep walk, so we usually drive down. It takes about four minutes by car. Parking can be an issue though…
Many restaurants are situated along the beach. Most of them open year-round. At the far end the AYO restaurant serves their famous Paella. If you are not full after the first plate, just ask for more.
CUEVAS DE NERJA
The caves of Nerja is one of Spains’ most popular attractions. The magnificent Nerja Caves – Cuevas de Nerja – are a series of huge caverns stretching for almost five kilometers and home to the world’s largest stalagmite, a 32 meter high column measuring 13 metres by 7 metres at its base.
FRIGILIANA
The small village of Frigiliana just north of Nerja has been voted the most beautiful village in Spain many times.
It is just a short drive away and well worth a trip.
